The UG-1v2 Universal Gauge is the latest evolution in our series of precision layout tools, designed to meet the needs of modern makers who demand accuracy and versatility in their workshop. This new version retains all the essential features of the original while introducing enhanced features and refinements that make it even more user-friendly and adaptable for a wide range of applications.
This tool is ideal for setting or checking angles on table saw blades, jointer fences, band saw blades, drill press tables, and more. With its thoughtful design and multipurpose functionality, the UG-1v2 is a must-have for anyone who values precision and efficiency.
Precision Try Square
The UG-1v2 features two 90-degree references: a fixed square and an adjustable protractor arm. The fixed square offers exceptional accuracy, with a tolerance of ±0.05mm (0.002”) over its 87.5mm (3-7/16”) leg, ensuring that your cuts are perfectly perpendicular every time.
Protractor
One of the standout features of the UG-1v2 is its protractor, which combines both the original UG-1 Left and Right variants into a single tool. The protractor dial has laser-etched graduations on both sides, making it suitable for use with both left-tilt and right-tilt table saw blades. This dual-sided feature allows you to measure blade tilt angles accurately for either configuration, eliminating the need for separate tools.
The protractor’s 45-degree quadrant, paired with the 140mm (5.5”) protractor leg, allows you to transfer angles with accuracy up to 0.1° by using the increased vernier graduation. This precision is crucial for ensuring exact cuts and layouts in your projects.
It also features quick reference icons for the common angles needed to make polyangular forms.
For those who make hand cut dovetails, it is easy and fast to quickly set the protractor arm to either 6:1 or 8:1 ratios using the quick set icons as a reference.
Adjustable Reference Leg
The UG-1v2’s reference leg has been redesigned for increased precision. Its offset design allows the thin 2mm blade edge to fit between the teeth of a circular saw blade for accurate measurements.
Additionally, you can use the UG-1v2 to set your drill press table to square or at any angle up to 45°. By chucking a drill rod blank in the press, you can align the table quickly and precisely using the two reference surfaces on the arm.
Direct Reading Bevel
The UG-1v2 is an efficient layout tool, allowing you to transfer angles from the tool to your workpiece with ease. The blade sits flat on your workpiece, enabling you to mark angles ranging from 45° to 135° with precision, ensuring your layout lines are always accurate.
Depth Gauge
The UG-1v2’s depth gauge is designed for versatility, capable of measuring depths in cavities as small as 8.35mm (21/64”) in diameter and up to 75mm (3”) deep. Whether measuring mortises, dados, rabbets, or holes, the UG-1v2 is your go-to tool.
The newly designed Depth Gauge and T-slot fit allow for quick and easy installation.
The magnets embedded in the depth gauge provide a smooth, controlled sliding action, allowing you to move the gauge without losing accuracy. These magnets are strong enough to hold the position securely, preventing the gauge from dropping out of the track during use, so your measurements remain consistent.
Height Gauge
Setting the height of saw blades, router bits, and shaper cutters is more straightforward than ever with the UG-1v2’s height gauge. It can be securely locked in place to ensure that your height settings remain accurate throughout your work.
Marking Gauge
The UG-1v2 also serves as a quick and reliable marking gauge, allowing you to lay out lines a specific distance from a reference edge. While it’s not as versatile as a dedicated marking gauge, it works exceptionally well for smaller-scale tasks like tenon layouts or when parallel lines of a known distance are required. Simply set the orange indicator at your desired distance, and use the bottom edge of the tool to mark along the workpiece. This feature ensures efficient and accurate line marking without needing an additional tool.
Imperial/Metric Comparison Tool
The UG-1v2 is equipped with both imperial and metric scales on opposing sides, allowing for easy conversions between the two systems. Sooner than you think, you’ll become familiar with common conversions—like knowing that 25mm is about 1 inch and 12mm is approximately ½ inch—helping you work fluidly across different measurement systems.
Centering Rule
The UG-1v2’s centering rule allows you to quickly find the center of stock up to 140mm (5-1/2”) in width. Simply align the same numbers on either side of the rule, and the 0 mark will indicate the exact center of your workpiece. This feature is especially handy for balanced cuts and layouts.
Flip Standoff
The UG-1v2’s flip standoff has been relocated for greater convenience. When you need to lay the gauge flat on a surface, simply flip the standoff down to create a stable base. When not in use, the standoff can be hidden away, ensuring that the tool remains compact and easy to handle.
Magnetic Base
For hands-free operation, the UG-1v2 features a magnetic base thatsecurely attaches to metal surfaces. This is perfect for situations where you need both hands free, such as setting upequipment or marking large pieces of stock.
