CS-12 | COMBINATION SQUARE

With a commitment to accuracy and our traditional “look and feel” thoroughly addressed, we are pleased to introduce the CS-12 Combination Square, a welcome addition to our ever growing family of precision tools. To ensure accuracy between the blade and the square head over time, we have recessed two steel friction pads into each combination square head that are much closer to the hardness of the steel blade. This allows us to use a brass body, which does not rust, even in humid environments. This tool maintains its accuracy as well as a very unique appearance.

Each CS-12 blade is 12" in length and is satin-chromed for excellent “readability”. Graduations are both English and Metric.

CT-4 | ANGLE DIVIDER

Angle dividers are invaluable in determining the angles for perfect, gap free miter joints. For this purpose, our angle divider accurately determines miters for unknown angles.

Flawlessly inset into the faces of the 6" solid brass handles are book matched rosewood cheeks. Precision steel helical gears are rigidly attached to each handle. Once indexed, the two handles are connected to a precisely milled, 4-1/2" brass blade. These gears allow the two handles to rotate around centers in opposing directions. Whatever the angle on the outside of the tool, the blade bisects-indicating the exact angle for a perfect miter joint without any mathematical computations. You lock the CT-4 Angle Divider with the wood infilled locking knobs.

Miter work is significant because end grain is dramatically different than edge or face grain. For centuries, craftspeople have relied upon the seamless appearance of miter joints to conceal end grain. Tight fitting miter joints are imperative for successful work and to meet the high quality standards expected of an accomplished wood artisan or craftsperson.

With the CT-4 Angle Divider in the closed position, the blade is sheltered. Open the handles (they move equally but in opposite directions) to reveal a perfectly centered blade. The CT-4 Angle Divider can be thought of as a folding square. Set the open handles on a straight surface, lock the tool and the blade bisects the 180° surface. This is terrific when you need a 90° reference and are without a square.

The tool is designed to work primarily with the outside edges of the handles for bisecting any angle through 340° of arc. The inside faces are used primarily for scribing the half angle of an accurate miter joint. You will transfer many readings from the CT-4 to a T-bevel for machine set-ups. The narrow slot milled into the blade allows you to find center on round stock up to seven inches in diameter.

In every previous commemorative tool we have buried a United States penny in the tool handle. Concealed within the brass handle of every CT-4 Angle Divider is a penny. This small copper penny, as insignificant as it has come to be, is a powerful symbol of good fortune to those who cross paths with one apart from commerce. From all of us at Bridge City, this is our symbolic gesture of good will and continued success in your endeavors.

This tool was produced in 1996.

MG-3 | MARKING GAGE

Inset into the solid brass beam is a dead accurate, photochemically etched satin-chrome rule, available in either English (1/32s) or metric (mm). On the non-business end of the head is an adjustable read-out sleeve. Lock the beam in position with the cutter flush with the face of the head and set the read-out sleeve to 0". From this initial setting, which likely will not need to be adjusted for years, the MG-3 Marking Gage can be set to any distance up to

six inches to 150 mm quicker than you can say "snickerdoodle". Dimensions as tight as 1/64" are easily attainable by setting between the 1/32" marks. For those of you who are not used to the treat of a ruler with your marking gage, we offer the MG-3 in a basic version.

The head (the portion of a marking gage that fits you hand) of our introductory Signature Series is made from solid rosewood, double brass faced for generations of faithful service. Nicely contoured to fit any size hand, and balanced by the solid brass beam, the MG-3 Marking Gage is unlike any similar tool and will exceed all your expectations as well as inspire your imagination. The locking knob and the beam finial are wood infilled, completing a design that will be a proud addition to your shop or tool collection.

Mortise and tenons, dovetails, lap and half lap, or any wood joint layout will benefit with the use of the MG-3 Marking Gage.

CT-5 | HAND VISE

Long before "locking pliers" or Vice Grips™, craftspeople relied on small, hand held clamping tools known as pin (or hand) vises. More than likely, due to cost comparisons with the new mass-produced locking pliers, hand vises lost their way and quality versions are no longer being produced. .

The elegantly functional design of the CT-5 Hand Vise was inspired from the Alford hand vise last produced over a century ago. The bright nickel-plated, precision milled jaws are fashioned from solid steel and assembled onto the center portion of the tool. A flawlessly turned rosewood or Juara wood handle, capped with a brass ferrule is attached. Completing the assembly is a solid brass knob with a matching wood infill.

A hand vise is specifically used to hold work where your fingers will not, cannot, or should not go. You use this tool for all items too small or delicate to hold with more "modern" techniques, like slip-joint pliers or locking pliers. The major difference is your hand is free from the squeezing needed for pliers. This is of great help to those who have grip or hand strength difficulties. Rather than have a small part spin in your pliers, use the CT-5 Hand Vise. You control the pressure needed to firmly hold the work. The result is perfect execution without crushing, deforming or losing your work piece.

The first thing you will notice is the dampening characteristics of the steel jaws when touching small parts to abrasive machines. Vibration is dispersed throughout the mass of the metal components. What used to feel like a ride on a wild bull now feels like velvet. And the wood handle provides additional dampening.

Notice the flat sides of the CT-5 Hand Vise. This enables you to position the hand vise in your workbench vise for intensive, accurate work. Applications include filing, sanding, finishing, bending (etc).

The "V" milled jaws are designed to hold hexagonal, square or round stock, either parallel or perpendicular to the jaw orientation. This is great for drilling and other assorted tasks on slippery or short stock.

This tool was produced in 1997.

CS-6 | COMBINATION SQUARE

The CS-6 Combination Square has the same classic cast silicone brass head with rosewood inlays. The head is machined to a tolerance of .002" over the length of the blade. All of the blades are photochemically etched in satin chrome plated steel.

The new blade is unlike any other blade being made. This Bridge City exclusive uses only 32nd and 16th graduations on opposite edges. This feature lets you flip the square from left to right and still use the same measurement system. This is an incredible improvement and will create fewer mistakes.

This feature is applied to the metric square as well. And for those of you who still want both metric and imperial we offer that one too, but for obvious reasons, the flipping of the square feature does not apply.

TITANIUM NITRIDE COATED PROFILE SCRAPERS

It is difficult to accurately make perfectly round profiles from square stock using router bits. Ther eis always a telltale sign the profile was "router-made" which denies the curious the wonderful expeience of feeling a "true" shape. Work that looks round, but feels like an emerging four-leaf clover, is amateurish and avoidable.

These scrapers are uniquely designed to help you do profiling with the least amount of effort. Each radius profile corresponds to a common cove (core box) or quarter-round router bit and will allow you to "true" round profiles when worked around an imperfect shape. They are designed in such a way that when held approximately 20 degrees off of perpendicularity to your stock, you profile with a true circular shape, matching your intent. Beads and coves are now effortlessly dressed compared to sanding.

Each of these scraper profiles is precisely cut by CNC machines from 0.032" hardened spring steel. After profiling, the face of each scraper is lapped creating a mirror-like surface.

MILLENIUM BRACE

PG-5 | PROFILE GAGE

The PG-5 (or any section of the PG-10 or PG-13) is particularly useful for seating hardware. Chisel the pocket for a hinge or lock set, take a "profile depth" reading and you will easily see the high spots needing further work. Another favorite application is custom drawer liners or tool racks. Profile your favorite tools and transfer to your stock to cut the profile away.

Original Price:$119.00

PG-10 | DOUBLE PROFILE GAGE

Folded close to 90 degrees, the PG-10 Profile Gage will take 4 1/2" deep profiles! Imagine taking a reading of a model boat hull or deep crown molding with this!

For simple moldings and depth readings, square the wire fingers of your profile gage by "profiling" a flat surface. Next, either push the tool against your profile or, for extremely delicate profiles it is easier to work the wires to the profile from the backside. The pressure bar keeps the fingers in place to allow tracing. In either case, the results are fantastic. It's important to note that with our articulated profile gages, you do not push your work into the fingers but instead push the steel fingers into the profile.

Original Price:$209.00

PG-13 | TRIPLE PROFILE GAGE

The PG-13 allows for extremely large arcs or profiles that until today were not possible with a profile gage. These tools are great for modeling, architectural details, furniture making, floor and ceiling cutouts and a myriad of other applications where a clean cut profile spells the difference between craftsmanship and slop.

For simple moldings and depth readings, square the wire fingers of your profile gage by "profiling" a flat surface. CT-7 | PRECISON LOW ANGLE BLOCK PLANE

ERGONOMICS

From tip to toe, bottom to top, functionality was the driving criterion for this design. The front knob is smooth to touch and can be used as a finger rest of one-handed use or as a knob for two-handed applications. The curvature of the handle allows hands of all sizes to comfortably use this tool without compromises. The sides are free of intersecting protrusions allowing either to be a reference for side cutting applications. The rosewood or ebony infills are a final touch, creating what may be our finest tool to date.

The CT-7 Precision Low Angle Block plane has an overall length of 6 1/2", width is approximately 1 1/2" and the cutting edge is approximately 1 1/4". Overall, the height is just over 2". A 12'degree clock plane is the perfect tool for planing hardwoods and is the only plane that can effectively cut end grain.

This tool was produced in 1999.

82°COUNTERSINK

A secondary grind produced an unexpected groove, and though this does not affect our 82-Degree Countersink's functionality whatsoever, this cosmetic flaw forced us to reclassify this product as a blem.

A single flute countersink will only make PERFECTLY concentric countersinks - it's the multiple flutes which cause chatter. This is the best woodworking countersink we have ever used.

(3/8" shank diameter; 1-1/4" diameter)

MS-96 | PRECISION MEASURING STICK

Second, wedged sliding dovetails always self-align, so any combination of sections acts as one, preventing "joint sag". Finally, by making the tool in sections, you can use the MS-96 Precision Measuring Stick on all measuring tasks from 21" up to 97" without encountering knob interference.

Four brass locking knobs are infilled with rosewood, matching our other tools, the fifth is solid brass for purposes of engraving. The nylon tipped locking studs prevent scoring of the sections and mate with threaded brass bushings-a nice feature for you and your heirs. Finally, the nickle-plated tips (contact points are a scant 0.030" wide) are easily replaceable when your tool takes an inevitable dive to the floor.

CT-8 | 20°BLOCK PLANE

Any cutting edge is the intersection of two planes. These two surfaces in a plane iron are the back of the iron and the bevel. The five factors impacting sharpness are: the material to be cut, the metallurgy of the plane iron, the temper of the tool steel, the surface quality of the intersecting planes and the intelligence of the user. Four of these five criteria have been addressed with this plane iron....

The precision ground, A-2 tool steel plane iron of the CT-8 20° Precision Block Plane is cryogenically tempered and will keep a razor edge much longer than traditional tool steels. (Cryogenic tempering is a supplemental process to heat/quench tempering where tool steel is cooled below -300 degrees Fahrenheit in liquid nitrogen for several hours, which completely and thoroughly alters the molecular structure of the steel. The results are dramatic! The fine grain structure of the metal allows for extremely sharp edges that stay sharp much longer than traditional processes.) After tempering, the back is lapped. This mirror surface will never need to be visited for sharpening! The primary bevel is ground to 25 degrees and a final 30-degree micro-bevel is achieved with an 8000-grit water stone.

Beginning with a solid blank of stainless steel, the interior bosses of the tool are precisely CNC milled. The throat is completely adjustable allowing you to tailor the tool to your needs. The last machining step is grinding. The CT-8 20° Precision Block Plane will need no assistance from you to be true. We believe the CT-7 and CT-8 are the only planes with stainless steel soles for a very good reason, this material is very difficult to work, the results however are well worth the effort.

The solid brass sides of the CT-8 20° Precision Block Plane are joined to the sole with an interlocking double dovetail joint. This joint is difficult and time consuming and equally difficult to figure out. Most of you will wonder how we got this tool together—both exposed surfaces of the joint are dovetailed! After assembly, the sides are ground square to the sole, so the CT-8 20° Precision Block Plane can be used on it’s side to shoot an edge.

The iron of the CT-8 20° Precision Block Plane is adjusted by a stainless steel, 40 threads per inch lead screw (identical to a micrometer) mechanism. One full revolution moves the blade forward .025", however because of the 20 degree blade pitch, actual edge advancement is .009" per revolution. With one-quarter turn of the adjustment knob, you advance the cutting edge 0.00225" which is less than the thickness of a human hair! Finally, the blade adjustment shaft exits through a brass-bushing inset into a wooden infill.

Lateral adjustments are done manually by canting the undersized blade either left or right. (It is important when honing to keep your fresh edge square to the sides. This is a precision tool and will not cut square if you are not reasonably close in your sharpening techniques.)

Investment cast from silicon brass, this gorgeous study of motion and functionality is the key visual element of the tool. The radial knurls of the locking wheel create a contrasting visual feast and a functional mechanism for securing the blade to the body of the tool. The portion of the cap in contact with the blade is milled, insuring a light-tight seam that eliminates chatter and keeps the razor edge rigid to withstand the forces of cutting.

Functionality was the driving criteria for this plane design. The front knob is smooth to the touch and can be used as a finger rest for one-handed use or as a knob for two-handed applications. It also serves as the lock for the adjustable throat. The curvature of the handle allows hands of all sizes to comfortably use this tool without compromises. The sides are free of intersecting protrusions allowing either to be a reference for side cutting applications. The rosewood or ebony infills are a unique final touch.

This tool was produced in 2000.
