John Economaki, founder of Bridge City Tool Works, pioneered a new way to build a block plane which allows for an iron with dual edges; one ground primarily for end grain (42-degree attack angle) and the other for general purpose use (47-degree attack angle). We believe the HP-9v2 Dual Angle Block Plane is the most versatile block plane available today—one plane body with one iron equals two planes!

Tool making as an art has never been more obvious than the form and function of the HP-9v2 Dual Angle Block Plane. This beautifully crafted, dual-angle block plane has several distinguishing features making it one of the most interesting products produced by Bridge City Tools Works.
The quick action blade clamp makes for an unusually practical ergonomic plane design. By eliminating the traditional cross pin found in most antique and contemporary metal bodied planes, we were able to design the body to fit hands of all sizes. The 304 stainless-steel rear tote fits palms perfectly.
The 416 annealed stainless-steel sole with adjustable throat will easily serve multiple generations. The bevel-up iron is bedded at 12 degrees. The precision machined 6061-T6 aluminum sides and blade clamping mechanism, help lower the center of gravity of this plane – making it one of the most comfortable and fun planes to use.
The plane iron is adjusted with a modified Norris mechanism allowing for extremely fine blade advancement—one full revolution of the lead screw changes the depth of cut by .1mm/.004”. Skewing the blade is accomplished by leveraging the sleek lead screw “knob” either left or right but in practice, it is our preference to make lateral blade adjustments through the sides of the body.
The depth skids will allow you to turn the HP-9v2 into a mini thickness planer. You will be able to dimension your stock with .002” or greater repeatability. Some of the more obvious uses for this functionality are shoji screen components, jewelry boxes, inlay strips, and other projects where precise thin material is required. The HP-9v2 Dual Angle Block Plane is the only block plane available today with this capability.
The HP-9v2 also features a guide fence. By attaching two fence posts to either side and attaching the guide fence, you can plane square edges which allows woodworkers with lesser skill, or disabilities to achieve accurate results.
The HP-9v2 comes complete with the plane, depth skids, fence and one iron.
