The TS-2v2 is the largest of the Bridge City Tool Work’s fixed blade try squares and combines all of the features of our high-quality squares in an 8” blade length. Unlike the others, we have added a laser-etched scale on both sides.

Note:  The Try Square has been designed by John Economaki with an orange insert in the handle which is loose-fitting and allows the tool to be taken apart, should it need to be re-squared.  It also permits a secure grip when squaring stock. The orange insert does not affect the functionality of the tool.

8” hardened stainless steel blade accurate to .002”. The blade is treated to be corrosion-resistant and have a superior matte finish which is non-glare and easy to mark with a pencil. The corners are rounded to avoid damage if dropped. The handle is ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip and it is easy to hold in any orientation. The handle design allows for the blade to be re-squared if needed. An 8:1 dovetail cutout provides for convenient layout of dovetails on any edge.

What is the purpose of the orange insert in the try square handles?

The orange piece in the handles allows you to disassemble the handle should adjustments of the blade need to be made in case the try square makes an unplanned visit to the floor.  It is not a very common procedure but it is useful if needed.  Its designed to be loose to allow for this adjustment to be made.  It also permits a secure grip when squaring stock. As John Economaki often commented, "the colored insert is a fun way to entertain the user.  Layout tools are just like rattles to woodworkers.  They bring joy."

 

My try square fell on the floor of my shop.  Do I need to send my try square to a tool repair shop to get it re-squared?

No, you can re-square it yourself because all of the try squares (the TS-1v2, TS-1.5v2 and the TS-2v2) are field adjustable and can be adjusted by the user.  

Here’s how;

IF YOU HAVE A KNOWN 90 DEGREE REFERENCE

1) Using the proper sized hex-key wrench, loosen one screw and then tighten it just a little bit. Loose the other three screws.

2) Place the square against a known 90 degree reference and note which way the blade needs to be adjusted.

3) Clamp the blade of the square in a wood vise. Gently tap the handle in the direction needed to make the square mate with the reference. This may take three or four attempts. Once it mates, tighten the one screw that was semi-tight, check again for square and then tighten the remaining three screws.

4) NOTE: The set screws are stainless steel. If you tighten them too tight, you will break the head of the screw off and the tool will need to be sent back to Bridge City for repair. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THESE FOUR SCREWS!

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A KNOWN 90 DEGREE REFERENCE:

Using a known straight reference, align the square flush with the reference and scribe a line. Flip the square 180 degrees and scribe a second line. By splitting the distance at the widest end, an empirical 90 degrees can be determined. Using the technique described above, adjust the square until there is no gap when the square is flipped against the straight reference.

The TS-2v2 features accuracy, durability, an ergonomic handle, and a beautiful design making it great to use and just as nice to look at. Unlike the smaller squares, it has laser etched scales. The graduations are either Imperial or Metric and are on both the inside and the outside edges. The blade is hardened stainless steel so that you can use a marking knife without concern of damaging your blade. It is accurate to .002” on the outside and inside edges. The blade is passivated to improve resistance to corrosion; glass bead-blasted to give it a non-glare matte finish and you can mark it with a pencil and easily wipe it clean. The blade also has an 8:1 dovetail cutout for quick convenient dovetail layouts. It is also slightly rounded on each of the corners to avoid deformation should you drop it. The ergonomic handle is made of anodized aircraft grade aluminum; the mirror-image pieces of the handle provide a secure foundation to hold the blade. Its design provides a “positive grip” so that it can be used in many orientations with less chance of dropping it. The orange anodized aluminum trim piece not only adds to the beauty of the square but also is functional in that it allows for the disassembly of the square if it needs to be re-squared or fixed. Also, the rattle is intentional to add to the uniqueness of this try square. The TS-2v2 will become one of your ‘forever’ squares. With its stainless steel or anodized aluminum parts, a blade which can be re-squared, an overall beautiful design, and with a little care on your part, you will never need to replace it.
