Chopstick Master Blanks & Sleeves

Included in Kit:
20 Blank Chopsticks (see type of wood availability listed below) and 10 Canvas Sleeves (5 blue sleeves and 5 red sleeves)

Kits Available in:

Cherry- A diffuse-porous hardwood, planes nicely, however, reverse grain is common (you will need to plane some spots pulling the plane towards you to avoid grain tear-out). Cherry Wood starts out slightly reddish when finished and darkens with age.

Walnut – An easy to plane wood with moderate grain reversal in the blanks (you will need to plane some spots pulling the plane towards you to avoid grain tear-out). It is prized for its rich color and makes beautiful chopsticks.

Maple – A diffuse-porous hardwood that has excellent planing characteristics but reverse grain is not uncommon (you will need to plane some spots pulling the plane towards you to avoid grain tear-out). This is the lightest color of chopstick blanks that we provide.

Padauk – A bright red/orange when freshly cut but does mellow over time. This is an open grain hardwood that planes easily and makes an excellent chopstick not only for its hardness but for the beautiful color – red is considered “good luck” in China.

Teak – The wood is naturally oily and durable and the chopsticks are a rich brown. It is more abrasive than any of our other blank choices meaning you will need to sharpen the plane iron more frequently.

Ceylon Iron Wood – The technical name of this wood is Manilkara hexandra, and one of its nickname is Ceylon Iron Wood. This is a smooth planing wood with a nice chocolate brown color when finished.
